 2016 Spring Coaching

Outside Edge Lead Instructors Paul Strople and Chris Pierce develop all programming and lead on ice / off ice for all age levels.

Paul, Chris and their dedicated and professional coaching staff will ensure that each team is equip with a dedicated non-parent head coach and dedicated non-parent assistant to lead each respective age group's games.  

In addition, each age level will feature a minimum of 2 lead instructors per practice (including either Paul or Chris + head coach) as well as assistants to ensure that all on ice opportunities are maximized.

Outside Edge will also feature goalie specific instruction by Empire Goaltending each practice.


2016 Spring Tournaments

Outside Edge Hockey Development is excited to announce that we have been accepted into the 2016 Andrews AAA Hockey Tournaments.  Each Outside Edge Team (05, 06, 07) will participate in the Andrews PEI tournament in April and the NB tournament in May.  We would like to thank Andrews Hockey Growth Programs for the opportunity to compete in their high level tournaments!

2016 Optional Tournament

Outside Edge will also offer an optional away tournament in June and/or July for participating families that have interest in travelling outside the Maritimes for a third tournament at their respective age level.  The cost of this optional tournament is not included in the Spring program.

2016 Spring Program Inclusions

2 Andrews Tournaments (PEI in April and NB in May)
30 hours of on ice practice (20 x 1.5 hours each)
15 hours of dryland (10 x 1.5 hours each)
4.5 hours of  chalk talk sessions (3 x 1.5 hours each)

$1350 + HST (3 scheduled payments)

or $1250 + HST (Early payment option)

This reflects the total cost of program.  There will be no further assessments.  
Payment schedule will be arranged for players selected through tryout process.

 Each team will consist of 15 skaters, 2 goalies, and 3 affiliate players.

Lead Instructor

Paul Strople has 25 years of hockey coaching experience at the national and international levels. He started his hockey career as a player in the Spryfield Minor Hockey Association, moving on to play Major Midget with Dartmouth Chevies and Jr A with Halifax Lions.  Paul has experience playing on the Nova Scotia Canada Games team and finished his hockey career playing pro hockey in Europe.  

Paul has coached at all levels of minor hockey, junior hockey, has instructed at numerous hockey schools and has coached at the professional level in Europe. Paul has had success in developing hockey players in order to prepare them for the next level of competition.  He has coached numerous players that have since gone on to play professional hockey, in QMJHL and for various University teams . 

Paul proudly coached China's Women’s National Hockey Team allowing them to qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.


Lead Instructor

Chris Pierce has 18 years of hockey coaching experience.  He developed his passion for hockey at a young age playing 16-years of competitive hockey ending with three strong seasons in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.  Chris was called up to the Sherbrooke Faucons of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as well as playing with the Truro Bearcats, Dartmouth Oland Exports and the East Hants Penguins.  

Chris’s 18 years of coaching experience ranges from Goalie Coach to Head Coach and he has spent many years in between as an Assistant – Offensive and Defensive. Chris brings a combination of energy, playing experience and coaching experience to every game and practice and has extensive experience with on and off-ice session planning, execution and player evaluations.  

Chris has spent the past six seasons coaching at the IP, Novice and PeeWee AAA level, Elite and AAA Spring Hockey, and Local Minor Hockey Organizations.  During this time, Chris has also designed an off-ice training program for teams and individuals.  For the past four years, Chris has been the personal off-ice trainer for Shane Bowers and Mark Grametbauer who have both recently been drafted to the USHL and Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagues.  

Chris always provides a program that pushes the athletes physically and mentally using a combination of on-ice, off-ice, and classroom training and understands the physical and mental demands placed on hockey players who are competing at the top levels. 


Goalie Specific Instruction

Outside Edge Hockey Development recognizes the importance of providing solid goalie specific instruction!  We have partnered with Empire Goaltending for the 2016 Spring Season.  Empire Goaltending will work specifically with our goalies each practice in order to ensure proper goalie development throughout the spring.


Each Outside Edge Spring participant will be allowed to add up to 2 sponsorship bars to each of their jerseys (home and away).  Details related to our sponsorship program will be distributed after players are selected through the tryout process.  If you have immediate questions related to sponsorship, please email
